Hometown: Marshfield, Wis.
High school attended: Columbus Catholic High School
Current program or major: Undecided
Why did you choose UW-Marshfield/Wood County? I chose to go to UW-Marshfield/Wood County for many reasons. I wanted to stay close to home because I am very close to my family. I also love the low tuition. I didn’t have to take out any student loans my first year, which I am really excited about. Since I came from a small high school and loved the small-school atmosphere, that’s what I wanted in a college. I also love playing sports and knew they offered my favorite sport, volleyball, so all those things pulled me towards UW-Marshfield/Wood County.
What surprised you the most about UW-Marshfield/Wood County when you arrived on campus? I was surprised at how open everyone is. All the professors and staff are wonderful people. They are more than willing to help you out with any questions. It truly feels like a great big family here.
Why did you choose your program/major? I am currently undecided so I am going for the associate’s degree at UW-Marshfield/Wood County. I have thought about becoming an ultrasound technician because I’ve always found that interesting. I have also thought about becoming a theology or religion teacher because I am very involved in my faith.
In addition to being a college student, what takes up your free time? What is free time? I am so busy, I feel like I am never home. I am a student ambassador. I played on the volleyball team, and I am currently on the basketball team. I also have a part-time job at Festival Foods. I also will be serving on the UW-Stevens Point Regional Campus Transition Committee, which is about the two- and four-year UW campuses merging.
Who has been your favorite professor or staff member? I love my ambassador advisors, Marta Rusten and Ashley Masephol. They are so helpful and fun to be around. If you have a question they usually have an answer for you within a couple of minutes. They always make being an ambassador a fun and an enjoyable experience.
What do you plan to do after UW-Marshfield/Wood County? I am not sure where I would like to go yet. I have thought about UW-Eau Claire, Chippewa Valley Technical College and UWSP. I guess it all depends on what major I choose. Right now, I love being at UW-Marshfield/Wood County, and I am at and taking it one day at a time.
What is one piece of advice you have for incoming UW-Marshfield/Wood County students? Get involved in campus life. There are so many different activities for students that you should do at least do one. I tend to be shy around people I don’t know very well. Since I played on the volleyball team and was an ambassador, I knew many people on the first day of school who I felt close to, which made the transition a lot easier.
