Current program or major: Nursing

Why did you choose UW-Marshfield/Wood County? I had heard great things about this school from my husband, who attended here before transferring to UW Eau-Claire to pursue his bachelor’s degree in nursing.

What surprised you the most about UW-Marshfield/Wood County when you arrived on campus? I enjoy learning. It has been 19 years since graduating high school and, back then, school wasn’t my favorite thing. I really struggled in high school.

Why did you choose your program/major? Nurses can work in lots of different healthcare areas, giving me the opportunity to explore what fields interest me most. I am hardworking and enjoy helping others, which makes nursing a good career fit for me.

What are you learning about your career field that you find interesting or rewarding? I find learning in general, rewarding and interesting. This is not something I would have said 19 years ago. I really do have a drive to learn, although it is hard at this stage of my life to find the time.

In addition to being a college student, what takes up your free time? What free time? I am a mother of two and a foster parent for Marathon County Social Services. My husband and I currently have four dependents, ranging in age from nine years to 11 months. When I am not at school or studying, you will find me with the kids.

Who has been your favorite professor or staff member? I enjoy all my professors! I am grateful for Janet Cain’s (mathematics lecturer) help and patience. The process of shaking the cobwebs from my brain has been challenging, but with her encouragement, it has proven to be achievable.

What is one piece of advice you have for incoming UW-Marshfield/Wood County students? Never be afraid to ask for help! In addition, get ready to roll up your sleeves!
