A tribute concert for the late Melvin R. Laird, sponsored by Marshfield Clinic Health System.
The Pro Arte Quartet (PAQ) is one of the world’s most distinguished string quartets. Founded in Brussels in 1912, it became one of the most celebrated ensembles in Europe and was named Court Quartet to the Queen of Belgium. In 1940, the Pro Arte Quartet was offered a permanent home at the University of Wisconsin-Madison after being stranded in the U.S. during World War I. PAQ has been an ensemble in residence at the UW School of Music since then. The Pro Arte Quartet performs throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. The quartet has performed at the White House and, during the multi-year centennial anniversary, played for the King’s Counselor in Belgium. Current PAQ members, together since 1995, are David Perry and Suzanne Beia, violin; Sally Chisholm, viola; and Parry Karp, cello.
