Middle School Academy

Middle School Academy is a week-long camp that allows youth entering grades 6-8 the opportunity to pick their own classes, learn about new and interesting topics, and take part in fun, stimulating activities. The camp consists of 3 different classes scheduled back-to-back every day, Monday-Friday, from 1-4pm. A snack and drink will be provided between classes.

Registration: When registering, indicate top 3 class choices, 2 back-up, and T-shirt size. Class schedules with additional information will be mailed out prior to start date. (If registering online, please call CE with your class choices.) 

Location: Meet in the Helen Connor Laird Theatre Entrance each day for check-in and pick-up.
Fee: $79 (includes 3 classes, T-shirt and snacks)

Explore the 7 wonders of the world, and other ancient and modern day wonders, including the great pyramid of Giza, the Stonehenge, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, and more. Discover who built these amazing structures and why.

Advertising ABCs

Think about your favorite commercial? What made it so great? In this class, we’ll discuss and look at samples of several forms of advertising, including radio, print, and television. Then, you’ll make your own flyer and work in groups to create your own commercial.

Four Course Chef

Bring your appetite to this class, as you will be cooking an entire meal, including appetizer, entree, and dessert. Stir, chop and whip your way through the fundamentals of cooking and enjoy a feast on Friday!

Hispanic Arts & Holiday Traditions

Explore the many ways of celebrating traditional holidays in other countries. Discover why Mexico decorates with weeds at Christmas time. Try your hand at yarn painting and sample holiday goodies from around the world!

Playing President

Ever wonder what it would be like to be the president? Given various scenarios, take turns roleplaying the president, vice-president, and other high ranking officials. Represent different countries in mock meetings regarding current global issues.

Zombie Emergency!

The Zombie Apocalypse is upon us and the UW is under attack! How will you survive? In this scary, fun class focusing on problem solving and communication, you’ll work through fictional scenarios, develop an emergency plan of action, and create a zombie survival kit. Learn the truth about zombies and find out if an outbreak could ever really happen.
