Dr. Yuriy Shlapak is teaching Mathematics both on campus and for the UW Colleges Online program.
Shlapak has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics from Kiev Taras Shevchenko University (Ukraine). He earned two Master of Science Degrees, one in Mathematics and the other one in Electrical Engineering with emphasis on communication systems, from the University of Connecticut in Storrs, Conn. He earned his doctorate in Mathematics from the University of Connecticut as well.
His doctoral research involved the study of some numerical methods for solving some equations of mathematical physics, namely the Gross-Pitaevskii Equation. Specifically, he was interested in methods based on the Fixed Point iteration and on the Mountain Pass algorithm.
Before coming to UW-M/WC, Shlapak worked as an assistant professor in residence at the University of Connecticut.
Shlapak lives in Marshfield.
