All students, who in their initial Wisconsin Math Placement Test place into one of the courses listed below, must take the ALEKS Placement Assessment.
- Mat 090
- Mat 091
- Mat 103
- Mat 105
Why are you required to take the ALEKS Placement Assessment?
- The ALEKS Placement Assessment provides additional information to that provided by the Wisconsin Mathematics Placement Test which allows more accurate placement into MAT 090, 091,105 courses. It is therefore required that these students take the ALEKS Placement Assessment.
- The potential benefit is that with a modest amount of review, students should be able to start at a higher-level math course and save several hundred dollars in tuition.
- All students are strongly encouraged to spend a minimum of five hours of work in the ALEKS Prep and Learning Module before seeing an advisor. Even if you have achieved placement in your desired course, time spent in ALEKS will better prepare you for your upcoming course and ultimately lead to better grades.
- Data shows that many students (especially those who have not had any mathematics in the last year of their high school, or are coming back to school after a long gap) place into developmental courses due to not remembering some basic mathematics. These students can make large gains with a short ALEKS review and move up to a higher course especially if they took a higher course in high school.
