Advising

All students are encouraged to coordinate class scheduling with the assistance of an academic advisor prior to PRISM registration. Failure to utilize academic advising services at UW-Marshfield/Wood County may result in missed opportunities, overlooked requirements, and transfer difficulties!

  1. Make an appointment to meet with your advisor.  Find out who your advisor is by logging into PRISM and clicking on Home SA Self Service Learner Services Enrollment View My Advisors.  If your advisor has scheduled a group session it will be listed here.  Note: your individual registration or enrollment appointment date and time will be noted in PRISM as follows: SA Self Service Learner Services Enrollment View Enrollment Appointment.  If your advising appointment date and time have not yet been posted, you may check the web appointment calendar to determine the day, but continue to check your PRISM account to determine your specific time.
  2. If applicable, complete (or update) your AASD Requirements and Planning Guide.  It may be helpful to print a copy of your transcript.

  3. Print off a curriculum plan for your major from your prospective transfer institution's website or Transfer Information System.

  4. Utilize the timetable available online to prepare a tentative plan for your semester courses.  It is wise to plan for multiple semesters.  Check the Registration Recommendations for Students in Developmental Classes if applicable.  A course planning guide will help you to make certain you have no time conflicts.  They are also available in Student Services.  It is important that you take time to properly prepare for your appointment!

  5. During your advising appointment, you and your advisor should review your overall progress to date, considering courses completed and courses needed to earn your Associate Degree and/or for your major.  It is recommended to have 1or 2 alternative courses if your preferred courses are full.
