How to get a work study position... and get paid for it!

Follow these five steps...

 

  1. Be sure you have previously accepted "Work Study" on your award offer.

  2. Select a position from the list below.

  3. Get Work Study Eligibility form from Dawn Messerschmidt in Student Services.

  4. Schedule an interview with the supervisor.  At the interview, hours and pay will be decided.  If you are hired, ask the supervisor to complete their section of the work study eligibility form. 

  5. You  MUST return the Eligibility form to the Business Office and complete a payroll packet before you will get paid.

Media Center/IT Helpdesk Assistant

Duties and Responsibilities:  The Media Center Assistant will assist the Helpdesk by handling the Media Center operations which include monitoring the computer labs, creating photo ID for students, helping students, faculty and staff with computer problems by phone, and other duties as assigned.

Customer Service/Marketing/Financial Aid Assistant (2-3 positions available)-Filled

Duties and Responsibilities:  Cover the front desk in the Student Services Office; greet guests, answer  phone calls, provide information and forms, and direct guests to appropriate staff members as required.  Copying, filing, shredding, typing.  Provide assistance with recurring projects and testing. Make appointments using MS outlook and excel data bases;  other duties as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities:  Primary objective is marketing student activities (i.e. fall and spring picnics, bands, and other activities)  Duties will include making large signs and posters, table tents, power point slides for the hallway display monitors, etc. Other duties as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities:  Assist in the staging and lighting for events in the campus theatre for PAS, concerts, plays and general campus and non-campus needs.  Perform general theatre maintenance.

Office Assistant-Chemistry-Filled

Duties and Responsibilities:  Assist with typing and copying quizzes, exams, and handouts; maintain records and files on computer; assist with grading on multiple choice and true-false sections of quizzes and exams; may be asked to grade lab reports or certain sections of lab reports (if qualified).  Also may be asked to clean-up and keep order in labs and stockroom, provide some maintenance support, inventory control, etc.

Qualifications/Skills Required:  Student must either possess computer skills or be willing and able to learn.  Must take and follow instructions well.  Suitable chemistry background and achievement level in previous chemistry course work necessary for grading lab reports.

Stockroom Assistant

Duties and Responsibilities:  Clean-up and keep order in labs and stockroom, prepare solutions, place items on reagent shelves in an orderly manner and with clear labeling for lab exercises in chemistry courses (124, 125, 145, 155); remove items from reagent shelves and return to proper location in stockroom, fill distilled water containers and paper towel dispensers in lab, etc.  Assist in preparing demonstrations as time permits.  Provide some maintenance support, inventory control, storage arrangements which are in line with safety recommendations, etc.

Qualifications/Skills Required:  Some chemistry background - preferably from students that have had or are currently enrolled in Chemistry 125 or higher-level course.  Individual must take and follow instructions well.

Library Assistant - Filled

Duties and Responsibilities:  Perform circulation tasks, check out and check in library materials.  Help patrons use the library by answering library (reference) and/or computer-related questions.  Process new materials as they are received.  This includes daily and weekly newspapers, magazines, and other new acquisitions such as books, videos, CD's and DVD's.  Computer and clerical/office work using different Microsoft programs (Word, Access, Excel) to type reports procedure manual updates, etc.  Also, answering phones, giving directions to other areas on campus, showing people how to use the copy machine, etc.  Help maintain the appearance of the library.

Student Parking Enforcement Officer

Duties and Responsibilities:  This position is responsible for enforcement of campus parking regulations. The individual will be employed 10-15 hours per week and will patrol campus parking lots to ensure that parking regulations are complied with, emergency access lanes and restricted parking areas remain clear. May provide for control of event parking. Individual will issue citations as appropriate, and provide information to students, staff and visitors related to parking. Most of the duties related to this position will be performed outside of buildings.
