How do I choose a career/major that's right for me?
- Career assessments: There are
many assessment instruments that can help students inventory
their interests, skills, abilities, and values in order to
choose an academic major and/or career options. These
assessments are not a “crystal ball,” but a way to narrow
down all the opportunities to a manageable size.
Check out these Web resources.
- Meeting with advisors: After
taking a career assessment, you are highly encouraged to
meet with an advisor at Student Services. You can set up an
appointment at (715) 389-6530.
- BUS 194: Career and Life Plans:
This course will enable students to develop career goals and
lay out a path for achieving these goals. Students will
examine their personal interests, aptitudes, values,
decision-making skills, academic plans, and career
awareness. This personal educational and occupational
information will then be organized and translated into an
individualized course of action. Integration of career goals
with current and future college course work will be
stressed.
- Career Exploration Series: If
you are not able to enroll in BUS 194, the Career
Exploration Series will offer workshops throughout the
academic year focused on different areas of career
development. Some topics include resumes and professional
documents, interviewing strategies, and career search
strategies.
